Indulge your tastebuds with these flavorful meatballs gyros. Succulent meatballs, accompanied by tzatziki sauce, and a refreshing cucumber and tomato salad, all wrapped in flatbreads. So much flavor in every bite!

meatball gyros

Although these are not genuine Greek gyros, typically prepared with authentic gyro meat, this recipe is an easier option that anyone can make. I absolutely love the Greek Gyro from Arby's, it's my go-to order almost every time. If you haven't tasted it yet, you're definitely missing out! I'm looking forward to attempting a homemade version inspired by Arby's in the future :)

Ingredients You Will Need:

  • ground beef- or ground lamb

  • flatbreads- I used homemade pitas

  • egg-

  • bread crumbs- I just used plain

  • garlic- minced

  • plain Greek yogurt- for the sauce base

  • English cucumber- some diced + some grated

  • tomato- diced

  • red onion- diced

  • Italian parsley- chopped

  • fresh dill- chopped

  • lemon juice- freshly squeezed

  • avocado oil- or any nuetral oil

  • spices- ground cumin, salt, and pepper

  • optional- crumbled feta cheese, parsley for garnish

I like to make the tzatziki sauce a few hours beforehand to allow the flavors to come together. To prepare the sauce, add the Greek yogurt into a small bowl, grate the cucumber and add that in as well as the minced garlic, dill, avocado oil, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine and refrigerate until ready to serve.

Next, you want to prepare the meatballs: combine the ground beef, egg, bread crumbs, parsley, garlic, and spices.

Take small amounts of the meat mixture and with your hands roll into balls, keeping them uniform in size. You can make them whatever size you want, just remember to adjust the baking time accordingly as it will vary with the size of the meatballs. I was using homemade pita breads which were thinner than normal flatbreads so I went with smaller 1-11/4 inch meatballs and they were perfect. These took about 15 minutes to bake at 425 degrees.

Last but not least is the cucumber-tomato salad which adds a burst of fresh flavors! Mix together the chopped cucumber, tomato, red onion, parsley, salt, and pepper.

To assemble, lay down your warmed flatbreads and add a generous amount of tzatziki sauce, 3 or 4 meatballs, cucumber-tomato salad, feta and parsley if desired. Serve immediately.
