The Best Soft and Fluffy Sugar Cookies topped with a creamy buttercream frosting! With a super soft cake-like texture these sugar cookies are bakery-level delicious! Customize to any holiday or occasion by coloring the frosting and adding festive sprinkles!

Made with Greek yogurt, these cookies are truly the softest, fluffiest sugar cookies, best frosted with creamy buttercream (recipe included). Thick and fluffy sugar cookies at home? YES, PLEASE!

Why I love these Soft Sugar Cookies:

  1. Greek yogurt in the dough- The Greek yogurt added to the dough creates a super soft cake-like texture. You can also use sour cream if you prefer.

  2. Not too sweet- The cookie itself is not overly sweet, so you definitely want to top it with the buttercream for the perfect balance!

  3. Easy to Make- You can easily cut these into circles using a cup dipped in flour. Instead of rolling out the dough, you can also scoop into 2 tbsp-sized balls and flatten them before baking.

  4. Super Soft and Fluffy- Have I mentioned just how thick, soft, and fluffy these are!? Lol;)

  5. Easily Customizable- Easily customize to any holiday or occasion with festive sprinkles and colored frosting.

What You Will Need:

  • Softened butter-

  • Sugars- granulated and powdered sugars

  • Greek yogurt- or sour cream

  • Eggs-

  • Vanilla extract-

  • All purpose flour- spooned and leveled

  • Baking soda-

  • Salt-

Make the Dough:

Cream the softened butter, granulated sugar, and powdered sugar together until combined. Next, you want to add in the eggs, yogurt, and vanilla, beat until light and creamy. Add in the flour baking soda and salt. Stir until all of the flour is incorporated, the dough will be quite sticky. See photos below

Transfer the dough onto a piece of plastic wrap and form into a ball. Place it into the refrigerator to chill for at least 30 minutes, this will firm up the dough and make it easy to work with without adding tons of extra flour.

When the dough has chilled, preheat your oven to 350°F. Lightly flour your work surface and roll out the dough, dusting with more flour as needed. I like it to be about 3/8 inch thick. Cut the cookies with cookie cutters or a cup dipped in flour to prevent sticking.

Bake for 8 to 10 minutes. Do not overbake!! Top with the buttercream frosting, sprinkles of choice, and enjoy!!
